Named to Kirkus Reviews’ Best of 2012 for her first book, award winning author Carole P. Roman started writing as a dare from one of her sons. Using an imaginary game she played with her grandson as a base, Captain No Beard was born. It has followed with four more books to the series. Motivated by her love of yoga, Roman has written a book that not only teaches four poses, but shows how easy and accessible yoga can be. She has just finished the first of six books in a groundbreaking new nonfiction series about culture around the world. “If You Were Me and Lived in…” combines her teaching past with her love of exploration and interest in the world around us.

We love learning about other places in the world, so when we got “If Yo Were Me and Lived in Russia,” we were really happy. Once we opened the book, I looked at the dedication; Carole dedicated it to her grandchildren Alexander, Hallie, and Cayla. If you know Carole’s books, these are also the main characters in her Captain No Beard stories. I thought this was a very adorable thing for her to do!

Their are different words in these books to teach your children about other countries while still keeping them interested. After reading this book your child may stop calling you mommy and daddy, and start calling you mamochka and papochka (mam-oosh-ka and pap-oosh-ka.) Also in this book, your children will find similarities between their lives and how Russian kids live. One of the games the kids in Russia play is fipe, like American hide  and seek. You might learn new things too, like the Russian word for Russian Nesting Dolls. We love Carole’s books and know your kids will too!
